WEST SIDE STORY NEARING SELLOUT
WEST SIDE STORY NEARING SELLOUT
“West Side Story,” the 15th annual Heartwood Theater / Lincoln Academy collaborative youth production, is quickly selling out, with performances running November 3rd thru the 11th. Visit www.heartwoodtheater.org for complete list of dates, times and sellout information.
The list of adults and students involved, 60 or more, makes this one of the largest productions ever undertaken by Heartwood and LA.
Heartwood Artistic Director and Lincoln Academy Teacher Griff Braley has gathered a phenomenal group of professional, highly experienced instructors, who each work with students in their area: vocals, dance, stage combat and acting. Rehearsals have been pressing forward for nearly eight weeks, with two yet to come. It’s a long process, necessary for the level of physical and musical challenges required to meet this material.
“The scope of this project is a bit daunting to consider,” notes Heartwood’s Executive Director, Joy Braley, “but the rehearsal schedule, itself, has been carefully crafted, and this exceptional staff has been out ahead of things from the beginning.”
Polishing touches on the technical elements of lighting, set and costume are nearly complete, and full orchestra rehearsals have just begun.
“This is an undertaking laced with opportunities,” says Griff Braley, “… for students to sing under the professional coaching and care of Preston and the never-let-you-down accompaniment of Fleming (with a ten piece orchestra); to dance and move under the expert coaching and demanding rehearsals of NY based performer/instructor Michelle Bruckner, to learn how to move their bodies and choreograph stage fighting with professional stunt man and combat instructor/choreographer Mark Bedell, and to really dig for the passion of this story and present a cohesive piece of art, in which all of the elements support the truth of the play.”
The music, dance and drama of “West Side Story,” originally produced on Broadway in in 1957, have resonated in our collective memories for so long – and the cast/crew list is so large – this show will most certainly sell out before it opens. Don’t wait, or it will be too late.
Reservations available by emailing Heartwood at info@heartwoodtheater.org or phoning 563-1373 (please do not contact Lincoln Academy for tickets). Seating is unreserved, unless specifically requested in advance. Student tickets are $5 and adults are $16.
