Who has a small town’s best interests at heart? The local doctor, who discovers a serious health threat in the water supply? His brother, the mayor, who doesn’t want to risk the summer tourism on which the town’s economy depends? The idealistic newspaperman, who wants to shake things up with a sensational story? Or the respected community leader concerned about taxes?
Heartwood Regional Theater Company’s upcoming production of Henrik Ibsen’s “Enemy of the People” grapples with age-old, yet timely conflicts, as it depicts these clashing forces in a small coastal town.
Under the direction of Griff Braley, Ibsen’s compelling drama addresses the frightening tendencies of the masses to conform and the hypocritical and corrupt nature of the political system that feeds it. This is a story of one brave man's struggle to do the right thing and speak the truth in the face of oppressive public opinion. A top-notch cast of talented, veteran actors will bring Ibsen’s engaging and thought-provoking work to life. Who has this town’s best interests at heart? Join the audience and you be the judge.
