Final Weekend for Heartwood’s “Godspell”

The joy and playfulness of a simpler era explode with passion and theatricality in Heartwood and Lincoln Academy’s eighth collaborative youth production, Godspell. Experience the thrill of a profound and energetic ensemble, supported by a capable and familiar directing combo: Director Griff Braley, Tech Director Letitia Munson, Vocal Director Beth Preston, and Music Director Sean Fleming.

An enthusiastic young cast delivers music, improvisation, storytelling, dance and drama with Godspell’s much loved tunes and the sincerity of Matthew’s Gospel. Written in 1971, Godspell stands the test of time with the added fun of modern lighting and a rock and roll band as backup.

Why see it? Because you’ll laugh, cry, and move to the music. Because the wisdom of the literature and the joy of the vaudeville style provide a thoughtful, fulfilling evening of theater. Because the ritual and importance of live theater lives on, and you will be part of it.

Conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. In 1970, it moved to an off-Broadway debut, recently appeared as a 2011 Broadway revival, and for more than 40 years has continued as a favorite in professional revivals, colleges, and high schools.

Essential funding for Godspell is provided by Chesterfield Associates of Westport Island, Heartwood’s Season Sponsor - Bath Savings Institution, Season Youth Sponsor - Damariscotta Hardware, and anonymous foundations.

Why not complete your afternoon or evening of theater with one of Heartwood’s Dinner Partners: Damariscotta River Grill, King Eider’s Pub, Salt Bay Café, Le Garage, Best Thai, Newcastle Publick House, and Savory Maine.
