CA VIOLIN PROTÉGÉ TO PERFORM WITH HEARTWOOD

Opening July 19, Heartwood Theater will premiere “The Legend of Jim Cullen,” a story based on real events from Northern Maine, in 1873.  The legend positively hums with original music, performed by several talented musicians, including a young fiddle player from California.

At seventeen, Avery Merritt is considered a true protégé on the violin.  His musical interests span classical, old-time, bluegrass, jazz and rock repertoires.   At four years old, Avery requested a violin from his parents … the rest is history.  Winner of numerous fiddle contest awards, Avery plays several stringed instruments, including the electric violin … and hearing is believing.

While attending the 2012 NAMM (National Associate of Music Merchants) Trade Show in CA, Ned Steinberger of NS Design (musical instrument designer and inventor), Ed Howe (fiddle player with Perpetual e-Motion), and Corey Redonnett (composer/arranger/performer) met Avery Merritt, who discovered a common bond with Ed Howe, in contra fiddling, bluegrass, and multilayered electronic looping.

When exploring the sounds and styles of music supporting the text of Jim Cullen, music director Corey Redonnett decided to call on Merritt.  Along with a dozen other actors/musicians from around the country, Avery is now living in the Midcoast Area for the creation and performance of Heartwood’s final performance of their first decade.

Performances of Avery Merritt abound on youtube … check him out.  And join us in July, where you can hear him for yourself.  For show details visit www.heartwoodtheater.org.
